Fascists want public executions to make the population more comfortable with state initiated violence. Iirc it’s part of project 2025

Why? To make you ask that question.

They want you being appalled about what they are doing, so they can go tell their base that you support a Muslim terrorist and murderer. They want to portray you as a deranged sociopath, more concerned about the killer than his victims.

All they have to do is commit an atrocity against a despicable person, and our outrage at the atrocity can be portrayed as treasonous: We are providing aid and comfort to an enemy. Their base gets to be disgusted by us, and driven to support them.

Probably mostly because they are depraved sickos who get off on death, suffering, and ratings. This is a grotesque sport to them.

Secondly because Hassan committed the attacks as a soldier on a US base. Hegseth probably wants to send a message to other soldiers of the consequences of such actions. He’s been doing that since day one in the role.

Thirdly Hassan is a Muslim and grew weary of the horrors inflicted upon predominately Muslim nations by the US military. Can’t have anyone starting to have ethics in the military. Good soldiers follow orders. Islamophobia runs deep in the US government.

But let’s be real at the end of the day every justification for this will backfire. Potential copycats will watch and see themselves as a future star of the same series. The show of force to deter copycats will only do the opposite. That’s basically been the primary consequence of every US military engagement since the Korean War but even further to the merciless genocide campaigns against the indigenous folks of North America.

Ya know what’s funny? Deserters, traitors, and war criminals are specifically hanged because dying by gunfire is an honorable death for a soldier.

I think that’s why the Nuremberg trials ended with hangings. But I might be wrong, and I’m having trouble finding references because the first however many pages of every search are all talking about this dude.

I really hope you are right. Aside from emboldening other shoppers, which I hope doesn’t happen, the amount of shootings on the us is already appalling.

It would be nice if most people condemn this grotesque display, though.

This is what fascists do. There are no rules anymore, no moral or ethical actions. When there are no consequences for grotesque behavior, it grows, expands, and becomes normalized. Those who are like-minded now have kinship with the demented people in charge.

Because he wants to be martyred, and right now nothing would tickle Hegseth’s shriveled sack more than for there to be more terrorist attacks on U.S. soil (justification for martial law).

It might be pessimistic but I genuinely believe he’s trying to embolden people to commit terrorist attacks and incite a civil war.

Because trump and the republicans are down in the polls.

This is standard procedure for trump. Make a horrific mess, then distract people by doings something outrageous.

If gas prices are up, then shoot someone.

Because many people in the US are blood thirsty and love to glorify violence and death. I say this as a person born, raised, and still lives in the US.

An example: Not too long ago, I was talking to someone about my injuries and issues stemming from a drunk driver. The guy looked me right in the face and told me he believed that the drunk should be put to death for what he did.

I don’t even believe the drunk should die and I’m the one who sustained life altering injuries.

This explains why the method is firing squad, but I don’t think it explains why it’s being broadcast, does it?

If it’s out in public, then I think it could be broadcast.

It also doesn’t explain why they updated the rules before it happened, which I think would have happened under Obama or Biden

They might have tried, for an execution via a court martial, you need a unanimous verdict of 12 members, while non capital cases only require a large majority.

So maybe they didn’t get the verdict they wanted on those other cases, but this is to set a precedent as much as anything.
