[a green flag with a leaf stands above an utopian green city with vegetation and clean energy]
Greenists believe that the world should be a better place for green people, and everyone else too
[an orange fascist-looking star in a gear logo stands above a bleak concrete city]
Orangites believe that the world should only have orange people, and that all greens should be hung
[an orange character speaks smugly, in a bedroom that contains an orangite logo and a greenist/orangite flag]
Me?
I’m a greenist-orangite,
why do you ask?
all greens should be hung

That’s a big ol grenis
Thanks for correctly understanding the plight of orangites.
Person A: “2+2=4”
Person B: “2+2=6”
‘Centrist’: “Fellas, calm down! Can’t we compromise and agree 2+2=5?”EU politics: “We promise to establish robust processes for developing a common agreement on the result of 2+2 and will reconvene to assess progress, in 2+2 years.”
EU politics: “2+2 = austerity policy, 2+3 = austerity policy, 2-2 = austerity policy…”

“I’m an orange but want I green pussy”
Man it’s sometimes awkward being an orange, those fucking orangites give us all a bad name, but now a lot of greenists think I’m one of them. It sucks because I’m a greenist but seeing a lot of hate towards orange people because of those orangists hurts a lot.
I know that there’s a lot of history of orange people oppressing green people but I feel that greenists hating orange people is hypocritical and antithetical to the belief system, but any time anyone says it’s not cool everyone jumps in going “just like an orange, saying ‘that’s not like me!’”. That stuff is even being used by orangites as a recruitment tool for young oranges, saying “see? They hate you!”. We greenists need to stop it but it’s so cathartic to some green people who have felt so oppressed by the orangites that they refuse to.
Greenists have the right idea, and I’m not going to stop being one, but seeing the same hate from my own side makes it hard.
Green: “We think everyone should exist peacefully together.”
Orange: “We believe you should all be shot!”
This shithead: “Why don’t you two find a way to meet in the middle?”
Oranges could all get shot and Greens live peacefully together, instead of the extremist proposition by Greens for them both to peacefully exist together.
Ideology/politics hedging. Off chance your main fails, got a fallback. Fuck that. Great comic.
And that kids is what “socially liberal, fiscally conservative” means.
Oh, because of the flag I thought this was a satire of anarcho-communism, since commie states massacred anarchists
I think it is? The only other ideology would be anarcho-capitalism (lol), but a star on a gear as symbology would seem to preclude that. All in, it’s not a very coherent comic.
I thought the obvious subject was National Socialism. The OP uses orange for fascists in their comics.
That would make perfect sense if it wasn’t for the signs pointing in other directions: The star on a gear is very reminiscent of communist imagery, the green/orange flag is a reskin of the anarcho-communist flag (yes, there are other variants for other kinds of anarchist, but they’re even less relevant than anarcho-communists), and the naming format (greenist-orangeite) is more reminiscent of “anarcho-communist” than the Nazi formulation of “National Socialist” or the anarcho-nazi formulation of “National Anarchist.” I can only see this being about communists and anarcho-communists from a disgruntled anarchist of some type. Perhaps a solarpunk guy.
The symbolism gave me the same impression (and I was going to argue something about anarcho-communism having nothing to do with bolshevik bullshit), but then I checked the site and the author uses orange for fascism and has positive stuff about communism.
Paradox of tolerance
Uh… no? This comic has absolutely nothing to do with the paradox of tolerance.
Care to explain why you think that?
This comic is about clowns (nominally) combining murderous hateful ideologies with ideologies concerned with improving people’s lives; no part of it is concerned with what happens if you tolerate hateful murderous ideologies.
I saw it as a swipe at centrism. The green-orange clown being the centrist under review.
And it is a paradox of tolerance issue: trying to tolerate both a friendly ideology and a murderous one merely leaves space for the murderers to murder.
trying to tolerate both a friendly ideology and a murderous one merely leaves space for the murderers to murder.
Sure, but the comic never actually addresses that though; it’s more a swipe at the absurdity of the idea itself.
It doesn’t spell it out, it leaves it as an exercise for the reader. But it does tee it up for us!
Interesting because factions in Belfast use those exact colors.
I was going to say, this is why the Irish flag looks the way it does
I’m socially greenist and fiscally orangite
Spoiler, orangites are also shit for the colorconomy.
The greenists would like to help the homeless and feed the needy after they block an industry and remove those dirty jobs, if only it didnt ruin the character of the neighborhood.
Greenists would open up newer green industries and create new infrastructure projects. With all the help being thrown around the might not even be people going hungry or ending up on the streets.
What’s an example of a green industry. The failed battery plant we threw billions at, or reselling Chinese coal produced solar panels?
Nuclear power, solar/wind/hydro/thermal? power, public transit projects, forest management and other ecological projects that can all create jobs.
Which battery project in particular are you saying is a failure? Can you provide a source for what makes it a failure?
I’ve heard recently that solar panels have been having breakthroughs that extend their useable-life.
I’m sure ramping up and subsidizing local production of solar panels could make it more eco-friendly. However, I’m personally interested in nuclear power, specifically getting thorium reactor projects going.
Is this outlined in a plan with feasibility at all, perhaps by a green party, it sounds like it would be an interesting read. Nuclear sounds good, and I know Brookfields Westinghouse does it already, I just dont understand how the other industry would outcompete China in manufacturing. They use coal to produce their solar and wind, and they have all the refining capacity. Which I’d also assume the material refining would need to be carbon free here to satisfy a green party, making us even less competitive in manufacturing green products.
It’s feasible by taxing corporations more, that’s the important part.
You don’t necessarily need to compete with China if your panels are made with more ethical and sustainable business practices. In theory you make a deal with your allies to buy yours because you went the extra mile to do it right. You’d want other goods in such a deal though if you want to take the pressure off of China because they are able to produce theirs via less sustainable practices.
On the grand scale, we’re pretty late in terms of manufacturing to compete with China unless we did something more drastic like convincing a lot of people to live and work in the US. We could be a bit protectionist about our fledgling industries if we want to scale manufacturing more, but that will bring some trading trade-offs with any countries that we don’t have a trade deal with.
Our economy is mostly service oriented because we did all this offshore manufacturing decades ago, but now workers have less access to manufacturing jobs although there is still room in the market for our manufacturing sector to grow.
The Greenist isn’t green enough. I’m not voting to send a message they need to earn my vote.
“This orange looks more green than the other orange, I’m going to vote for it and call myself a greenist.”
“Oh why is everything still orange? I voted for the green shade of orange!”
the green shade of orange
…yellow?
It might be this:

So brownish yellow-orange?
Orange = yellow+red
Green = yellow+blue
Green orange = 2yellow+red+blue
Green orange = 2yellow+purple?
So you’re choosing less green. Got it.
You literally are in the third panel.
The third panel is a centrist. It is not someone who is so green that nothing is green enough for them.
I’m mocking the leftists who flooded Lemmy with their “don’t vote for Kamala” message.
… Think you missed the words: “world” and “everybody else”
No I didn’t. Extreme Greenists will be telling everyone in 3 years to not vote for Mamdani because of the police killing citizens that happened under his term.
Its not about police killing per se its more so the lack of accountability in police killings, since it’s unavoidable shouldn’t every police shooting have some kind of scrutiny. That’s the issue.
That’s because you aren’t an extremist.
The extremists wouldn’t vote for Obama because he killed some people while ignoring that he killed less than any other President in the last 50 years. In 3 years it will be “Mamdani the citizen murderer” while ignoring that ( I expect ) he’ll have less deaths than any modern mayor.
The extremists wouldn’t vote for Obama because he killed some people while ignoring that he killed less than any other President in the last 50 years.
Do you have an actual source for that? Considering the hundreds of thousands of people he had killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, I find it hard to believe his death toll was lower than Clinton’s, or hell, even Bush Sr.
Exactly. You are the green/orange in the third panel, complaining about being told you’re too orange to be green.
Ultra-greens: “That green looks a little yellow-green. That’s too close to orange! I’m so inclusive and tolerant. Why can’t everyone just coexist like me?”
Look, if you really can’t cope with not having the moral high ground of being green, maybe instead of bitching about it you can ditch the orange and get with the program.
Ultra-green: continues to dig heels in and insists that yellow-green is indeed orange, and that only super-ultra greens like themself are truly green and thus have the moral high ground.
Keep bitching all you want, man, we both know what you are.
Only there’s no greenish party, there’s only orange and 99% orange 1% green, and the orange-greenist is a 99 year old person running 99% orange policy to appeal to moderate oranges
Wow. A strawman and a false dichotomy. Impressive. The only people that extremists hate more than the other side are the people who refuse to take one.

You in big poodoo now.

“With enemies you know where they stand, but with Neutrals, who knows? It sickens me. What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?” - Capt. Zapp Brannigan
Zapp accidentally made a good point.
Ideology is bullshit. Politics is primarily tribal, ideology is just a rationalization about why your tribe is better than the other tribe.
There are issues to be sure, but if you talk with someone about politics for 15 minutes you’ll usually find all kinds of ways their ideology is inconsistent and hypocritical… unless you consider that they’re just repeating the talking points their tribal leaders told them to say. The only consistency about politics is “my tribe good, other tribe is bad.”
This comic exemplifies that. There’s no actual issue being discussed, it’s just green vs. orange. You’re expected to agree with green, and hate orange. And have even more disdain for anyone that seeks compromise. Which green issues does the character agree with and which orange issues they agree with, there’s no discussion on any kind of issue. Unquestioning loyalty to the tribe is consider good, considering any ideas from outside of the tribe is considered bad.
It’s obvious to anyone outside the tribe how counterproductive it is to attack anyone that might consider ideas outside of the tribe. You cannot build a broad coalition needed to accomplish anything in this way. It’s so painfully obvious. Even as the other tribe grows it’s numbers by not being so judgemental, even as your tribe shrinks and is manipulated into helping the other tribe you don’t notice because you’ve been conditioned by the tribe to never question tribe.
So what are you saying about being a loyal member of your tribe? You’re just saying you don’t actually want to think about the issues, you certainly don’t want to discuss issues, and you don’t want to be effective. You only want to prove your status to the other narcissistic people in your shrinking tribe.
Tl;Dr: “ideology is tribal bullshit!” I repeat to the fascist militarized police as they force me to dig a grave at gunpoint
Least politically educated comment I’ve seen all week, and that’s saying a lot. “Ideology is bullshit” no it’s not. Being able to rally together behind common ideals, with common concrete goals and concrete policies to achieve such goals is actually a good thing. “I have no ideology” is not what saved Europe from fascism in WW2, and you’re not going to convince fascists not to shoot trans people just by telling them “give up your ideology”.
Political ideologies should be discussed extensively, and they consistently are, it’s literally the reason why leftist infighting is a thing. It’s precisely the “apolitical centrists” who enable all the horrors of capitalism, saying “I have no ideology” is simply synonym with “I don’t care if things remain as they are”, and in the face of fascism and ecological disaster this is a horrible idea.
Least politically educated comment I’ve seen all week, and that’s saying a lot.
But you fixed this by writing your comment.
You could have saved yourself a few keystrokes by just typing “no u” instead
Everyday I go on here and see people attacking the politcal opposition to the fascists, people creating distrust in the free press, and pushing for violence.
If you had any kind of education in politics, you’d understand who it is that’s creating the kind of atmosphere fascism thrives in.
