The thing is, we’re not talking about the ____ group. We’re talking about those obnoxious Christians who are ruining it for everyone. If that doesn’t include you, nice. But that doesn’t change anything about that overly vocal minority.

I kind of wish the rapture would go ahead and happen. Us sinners would be much better off in the long run.

It’s suggesting that Vader’s mask caused him to mistake Luke as his son, which would be funny because of the whole plot revolving around Luke being Vader’s kid (and Luke being Leia’s brother — which is even funnier due to the sexual chemistry the two characters originally shared).

TL;DR don’t read too much into it. It’s only a joke.

One can hope! In the meantime, they’re happy to teach this old dog new tricks and that’s a start.

According to my elementary /middle school-aged kids, it seems they are in fact learning the metric system in school. And this is in a red state in the south. 🤷‍♂️

What you describe resonates with me deeply because I have been suffering a lot of what your friend seems to be going through now: depression, anxiety, burnout. They feed into each other and are very debilitating disorders. I hope your friend finds their life preserver and can hang in there.

I wish I could feature comments. As someone who is still going through burnout recovery, what you and @UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world are saying are both true and important for people to realize.

The only thing I would like to add is that recovery can and will take a very long time, and people need to allow themselves patience and grace during this process.

Therapy helps, and even if you can’t afford it, ask your therapist of choice if they have a sliding scale rate. This is a rate they charge based on what you can afford. It doesn’t cost anything to at least ask.

Prior work does not give you free license to come into this community and be an ass. You are bound by all of the same rules and expectations as all other posters. If that is not acceptable, you are free to go find (or create) a more suitable community to post in. Bigotry of any kind, for any reason, is unacceptable.

You are clearly not articulate enough to make a clear statement that doesn’t come across as an attack. So how about this: don’t.

By giving a rule, you are the one who decides what the line is. There is very little room for disagrrement since your opinion will be the one that is to be enforced.

I can assure you, this rule was made from the collective feedback of the community, other mods, and the .world admins.

I strive to take measured moderation actions only after careful consideration and listening to feedback.

It’s a difficult path to walk. Even things that were socially okay 5-10 years ago could be abhorrent today. Everything now is especially raw given the current rift between the different groups of certain people. And then there are those who like to poke the proverbial bear for whatever reasons they have, be it for attention, enjoyment, or because they are simply mean spirited. There are also those who do it unintentionally or without malice.

As I said to another commenter, it’s not black and white and will need to be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Personally, I find things like the origins of the Adamm’s Family comics interesting. The TV show and movies are staples of our culture, then and now; even if some of their original content was not up to our current standards. But, I also respect that some people may not feel the same as me, and that’s to be expected.

As long as we all remain respectful, we are encouraged to disagree in this community. It’s the only way we can be a genuine community.

It depends. Like most things these days, nothing is simply black and white. Provide proof and we will deal with it on a case by case basis.
