If all Communism is Soviet, then all capitalism is The Dutch East India Company.

Racism, slavery, and settler colonialism is the origin story of capitalism. But yea, the gulags were bad and stuff.

Don’t forget certain people are significantly less equal, but they’re reactionaries and they don’t count as people, so it’s O.K.

Any system we come up with will be corrupted by those who lust for power at the expense of others. Communism has the issue where the government controls everything, meaning there are far fewer barriers for a bad actor to corrupt the system.

Capitalism being more decentralized means it takes a bit longer for regulatory capture to get to the same point. But it’ll happen eventually because those people will never stop worming their way to the top.

Yes there is. Communism is a classless society, not a stateless one.

              You’re thinking of anarchy.

                No, he’s right.

You use socialism to get to a stateless society (communism)

The view is that a government is a class above the working man so it cannot exist but it is necessary to coordinate setting up a society that no longer needs it.

“Communism in it’s pure form has never existed so any criticisms of communist regimes are invalid” ~ any communist who is confronted by historical atrocities carried out in the name of their economic/political ideals.

It is very possible to both acknowledge that communism has not, in fact, existed and that regimes that used the word “Communist” are deserving of criticism. It could stand to happen more often tho

It’s also possible to criticize communist regimes without also supporting capitalist ones. Some people think everything is a zero sum game.

          100%

People can’t imaging being against dictatorship and in favour of democracy, before then being for a specific socioeconomic system of your liking.

There are no communist regimes though, while there definitely are capitalist ones.

The problem is that by using the word incorrectly the idea of communism is being criticized by examples of people not even trying to implement those ideas.

Thats like saying the concept of charity is bad because there are people who use charities for money laundering.

This meme was born out of .ml users spamming my post mentioning branches of the family tree that were killed in Europe. Once one finds a post that hurts their political feelings, five more clowns come out of the woodwork

This isn’t the prevailing attitude on this platform at all (and also not the prevailing attitude of the communists I’ve talked to irl) and so you saying this feels very fictitious and fabricated for a cheap political win against a strawman.

You can look at my post history and check the comments on the “communism bad” related posts. You’ll find quickly that you’re wrong. Said almost always by .ml users btw. I’ve had the exact conversation here on Lemmy a dozen+ times.

This is your most recent “communism bad” post (I’m not going to go through your entire post history). Genuinely not a single reply to your post in the vein you described before. The stance you describe is so exceedingly uncommon on this platform that it cannot be found in any comment on this post of yours from a week ago.

Most of the rebuttals are “capitalism kills more” and “black book of communism (and related sources) bad” and “a lot of those are dead nazis and dead nazi fighters,” where implicit in all these claims is that places like the USSR, China, Cuba, Vietnam, etc. are socialist and striving for communism. This is in fact the exact opposite of your strawman.

is this ragebait? who the fuck cares what some assholes did in the 20th century. assholes have always existed and will always exist in any government. the real issues weren’t with the ideals of redistributing wealth, but with forbidding freedom of opinion, freedom of speech, and freedom to not agree to the atrocities carried out by the government. that has nothing to do with economic policy at all.
