The problem is, you can’t not pay attention to the news. All the things going to shit isn’t in some far away place that’ll never effect you (and if you believe that ignoring it will make it go away you’re only kidding yourself).

Prices of everything is still going up without wages going.

A lot of us (in Europe) are within cruise missile range of an active invasion by a country that sees all of us as enemies.

Europe is actively working towards spying on everyone’s private information in the name of “protecting the children”.

Literal fascists and supremacists are gaining popularity on Germany, one of the most powerful economies on Europe.

You take all of that fact. You keep it in awareness. You do and take the preparations you can, so that at least the fruits of a grim and dimmed today, have a chance to see you through the bloody tomorrow.

But before you sleep, there is still a little sliver of now. A tiny kernel of “It is now, and I am”. That is where the whimsy goes. That is where you still do the things that make you, you. Even that thing that used to be the thing but you haven’t felt like much lately.

In about 3 days, I will have to face the song and dance of one of Capitalism’s favorite assaults on the worker. If lucky, and the legal system’s own loopholes serve the defendant worker instead of the plaintiff landlord, my family gets to stay out of the cold for at least another 30 days while preparing to counter, opening a lengthy process where righteous innocence must survive legal apathy and economic fuck-you-poors long enough to even have a chance to get justice and a fraction of my damages restored.

I’m still taking the early morning to mod a 30 year old game to run a VR mod on an EOL headset, a process that will almost certainly frustrate me and give me a literal headache, and also nourish my soul because it is an action for me, and it is my self-determination that says the battles must pause, not circumstance.

The little things don’t matter less in the face of great need, but more.

Because I need to be informed. :/ this shit matters and parts of it effect me directly.

Even the parts that don’t are also really important.

I really wish I could just ignore it, but it pays to be informed.

I honestly believe we’re in this shit because not enough people read the news. And whoever does, doesn’t look up details, just takes headlines at face value, eats the clickbait and moves on.

If you don’t read the news then you won’t stop hearing about the news. You will just get all the unfiltered hearsay, tinfoil hat theories, propaganda and hate material second hand.

I bet votes would be different and the world wouldn’t be at this state if MORE people read the news carefully.

People don’t believe me when I tell them I don’t set an alarm to wake up. My body just knows to wake me up and drown in all my insecurities first thing in the morning, just as my designer intended.

Its all concrete and asphalt. And then I’m back and its this again. And its both not something I can do anything about but also not knowing about it has repercussions for planning a future.

I am someone like this. I prefer to be informed because it spurs me on to fight against the negativity. It’s why I’m here on Lemmy and why I’m building my own homelab on Nix via a flake that I can share and help setup with my friends to get them off of capitalist bullshit.

My partner though with her anxiety has much more trouble with the constant depressing state of news. She can only handle at certain times and for so long because it makes her too sad or too depressed, which I totally get. That’s exactly how they want us so we don’t fight back.

Too bad that some of us are fueled by their incompetence and injustice and will absolutely do what we can to hold those asshats in power accountable.

People who forget to tell you they tested positive for Covid this morning and came over to your house where they know you care for your 90 year old immunocompromised grandmother… then when they remember on the way home decide not to call you so you could take early action. No, they wait until after she’s dead. When they feel too guilty they have to confess, expecting forgiveness—because who could have known, right?

        Those people?

I’ve given up on Democrats meaningful holding power ever again, in November the Republicans will expand their majorities.

    In 2028, President Vance

By 2030 Gay Marriage will be banned

By 2040 the 19th Amendment will be repelaed

At some point Sodomy Laws are making a come back, and don’t think gender affirming care is going to be legal for anybody.

Lmfao. “Why do you want to know that the walls are caving in? Like, stop thinking about it. Let me make a comic supporting my absolutely asshole opinion that ‘knowing things’ is a bad thing!”

In this stonetoss? About as dumb.
