The reason why Crows do this is because shiny things look like the sun glimmering off water in a pond or lake or similar, and they’re drawn to it after being born so they know where water is and can survive.
If you have a just born, baby crow, you place a bunch of glass stones in a water bowl so they can easily find it and start drinking. If they don’t associate those things, they will literally die of thirst.
So your shiny things are their “life saving water found” trigger, and makes them feel very, very safe and happy to have at their disposal, anytime they want.
