If professionals are winning tournaments and then going back to their massive salary, then what am I doing with my life?!
FWIW, the article says he’s a resident, so he is in all likelihood both incredibly overworked and not making that much money yet.
The article doesn’t mention how far into his residency he is, but if he happens to be a first year resident, he could be making only $73k CAD in Toronto (~$51k USD). That’s also on 60+ hour weeks, so it’s not far off from minimum wage.

Don’t forget the crushing med school debt.
Last I heard he was in the US, so probably not even that
Oh true, didn’t even occur to me that the tournament being in Toronto doesn’t mean that he’s from the area.
Other provinces in Canada pay even less, and then in the US you’re looking at even less than that in some places too for sure.
How do we artificially lower the number of doctors there are so that their wages can be inflated and THIS still happens? WHAT THE FUCK
If I were to hazard a guess - probably just different interesting and worthwile things.

The result gave lloD his first major title more than two decades after he began competing. It was also the first time a Peach player had won a Melee major since Armada claimed Super Smash Con in 2018.
So close, damn it.
I hope Dr. lloD respects their moral obligation to crush people - at least in casual games - while playing as “Dr Mario”.

“FALCON PONCH!!!”
You’re telling me PPMD wasn’t a real MD?
