Everyone at Costco on a weekday morning who is walking a little too leisurely. These aisles are for the living and I want to check you into the goddamn boards.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a band or artist you wish you could see, but they never make it to your area?English
2·7 days agoLiterally any of them. In the southeast it feels like there’s D.C. and Atlanta, but nobody really stops in between. Can’t blame them though.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What book would you recommend to a person in their final days?English
2·7 days agoAllegedly Shakespeare said not to see King Lear until you’re old. It’s pretty brutal. I recommend it sooner.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What song are you listening to RIGHT NOW, and would you recommend it?English
6·8 days ago“Taxi to Baltimore Dub” by Scientist. It has an interesting genealogy: Randy Newman’s song “Baltimore” was done as a reggae cover by Nina Simone, then covered again by an actual reggae band called The Tamlins, which then got remixed/dubbed by Scientist. If you listen to Newman’s and then Scientist’s, they’re effectively unrecognizable in relation other than lyrical snippets. I absolutely recommend it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How long is coffee good for in the fridge?English
6·8 days agoSnob answer: coffee is only good 20 minutes after it’s brewed, assuming you’ve brewed it 20 minutes after it was ground.
Practical answer: I’d probably dump it at the end of the day, it’s pretty stale by then.
Bureaucracy. Particularly how it informs political structures (looking at you, Weber).

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I Found It: The Best Free Restaurant Bread in America | Thirteen thousand miles. Infinite contenders. One beautiful loaf.English
25·23 days agoWarning: super long read. But a very interesting genealogy of free bread! I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Also, why I hate Olive Garden:
Horner’s demonic calculation for how many slices or rolls each table’s basket should contain is [Number of diners] + 1. Unevenly divisible bread creates “a tension that I really enjoy.”

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft reveals major price increase for all Surface PCs as RAM crisis continuesEnglish
15·24 days agoHeck, my surface pro 3 makes a great Linux machine. Still tweaking it but the touchscreen works just fine with Mint, so even an old one could probably do just fine.
