I got a Plex Lifetime Pass mainly for Plexamp + Tidal, but then they removed the Tidal integration. Roon lifetime pass is similar to what Plex is now, which is basically the only other option for this that exists right now.
I’ve tried using GH Actions before to build binaries fully from source and it’s difficult AF. It seems like using something like Nix could make this more doable.

That sucks. Various industries need academic research to function well and innovate, but I guess my country would rather spend all their money on blowing up families in the middle east and let the civilian job market collapse.
I just graduated and for me they didn’t even teach Git and expected you to do a bunch of your assignments in Java 8 or an old version of C/C++ (for which they taught terrible practices) depending on the professor. Some of it was Windows-centric and others needed to run on a machine that still uses CentOS 7. Also usually they wanted the program done in a single file.

The best [insert technical skill] person in the world isn’t going to be a good employee if they can’t work in a team, prepare a report, respond appropriately and professionally to emails, document their work, develop/follow SOPs required for project handoff, deliver a presentation, etc.
Degrees don’t require most of those things.
I do have programming skills. Most of the job postings I’ve seen were shitty JavaScript/Dotnet app development or Windows-centric IT slopjobs that pay as much as McDonald’s and is probably getting taken over by AI at this point anyways. For lower-level programming like C++/Rust which is what I’m more interested in, I’ve barely found anything outside of MIC companies and the one that wasn’t was Israeli-based. I do spend most of my free time working on Nix-based projects and tinkering with Linux, so I wonder what’s related to that. I’m also considering a PhD, but I just learned that even the research at my university closest to my interests is heavily tied to military/MIC funding. If it’s actually true that the only organizations that give a shit about quality code are the ones that commit genocides, that would really fucking suck.
I just finished my CS Bachelors and overall most of it felt like a massive fucking waste of time, especially since I suck at learning from lectures and also the content was like 15 years out of date. For the few classes that actually seemed worthwhile and interesting, I’m trying to figure out who the fuck is hiring for these skills that’s not military-adjacent. I did end up earning some Masters credits through a fast track program, but I don’t think it’s worth continuing at this point.

It depends. For programming, I’ve tried using them to write commit messages and they suck at it. And for healthcare they’re not summarizing blog posts, they’re dealing with potential life or death scenarios. Doctors have expert knowledge to catch details that LLMs won’t pick up on, and LLMs won’t notice nonverbal cues either which constitutes a large portion of communication. Doctors also have a thought process to log that LLMs don’t have either. Even if the doctor reviews the notes afterward, the quality will probably be worse than before.
Imagine charging $300 then outsourcing your note taking to a machine that barely knows shit and has nothing to lose

I created an account on .ml when it was the largest instance and basically no one except FOSS nerds knew about it so it had basically no activity. At some point, I vaguely remember certain leftist subreddits getting banned by Reddit admin which flooded Lemmygrad and Hexbear, then Reddit started doing stupid shit for everyone else who flooded .world and various other instances. So it changed a lot lol. (Personally I started browsing here often when the Reddit mass migrations started happening, first on my own instance, then .world, then .dbzer0, then here again.)
However, if you are of the legal age where you are even allowed to hold a job, period, you shouldn’t have to be trained on how to interact with human beings. That training should have happened long before you came to us looking for a job.
The education system doesn’t teach shit on how to interact with human beings though, and even heavily discourages it by making it about individual skill and competing for the highest scores. Then throws them into the real world that functions completely different than what it teaches and floods people with various things that demand attention but giving attention to all at once isn’t possible and a lot of it is bullshit anyways. Everything becoming a suburban hellscape where you need a car and parental consent to do anything and people call the police on children or teens doing things by themselves and stuff being increasingly age restricted doesn’t help either. Meanwhile everyone still needs a paycheck whether they have those skills or not.
Does Bing even have an API anymore? I thought they mainly use Brave and Yandex now and some other smaller ones
