You’ll want the amd64.deb file for debian unless your computer has an arm cpu in which case it would be the arm64.deb. Nicotine+ is a good soulseek client (https://flathub.org/en/apps/org.nicotine_plus.Nicotine)

4·25 days agoExactly. I am not a heavy user but occasionally I need to multitask a bit. I upgraded from 16 gb to 32 gb a while back because with 4 open workspaces, a browser window in each one plus an email client, signal, a couple libreoffice apps open, and my notes app, it was having to use enough swap space that I noticed the performance hit. I’ve had to use some very poorly optimized sites for work that literally used a gig of ram for one tab. A small number of very light users might be ok with 8gb, but most will likely have issues.
It’s probably DRM related. I believe https://getlibation.com/ should do the same thing.
Proton VPN and Mulvad has their GUI clients for linux
They do but don’t use Proton. They’re very lazy about their VPN implementations and the official clients are very leaky in general. Plus they neglect all their linux apps.
Or even easier would be something like https://winboat.app/
TuneFab
Is this a feasible alternative? https://getlibation.com/
As for tunefab for amazon music, why not just use soulseek instead?

5·29 days agoEfficiency is a functionally meaningless term under capitalism. Efficiency of what? Efficiency of email and phone spam? Widespread advertisement campaigns? Efficiency in sabotaging your competitors or collaborating to fix prices? Efficiency in redesigning products to manipulate your consumers and planned obsolescence? Efficiency in environmental destruction? Efficiency in finding loopholes in the legal system and regulations? In lobbying the government to receive special treatment? There are many ways to compete in a competitive market.
Society needs direction. Production when necessary, at the level that it is needed, keeping in mind ecological constraints. Capitalism is incapable of that.

1·1 month agoYeah I’m not very familiar with the android landscape since everything that’s not GrapheneOS is a total shitshow. Sounds like app optimization may be less of a concern than I anticipated, that’s great

54·1 month agoThere are a lot of assumptions baked into everything you’re saying. It’s really not that deep. Google Pixels make up a tiny fraction of total mobile market share. This isn’t the start of some doomsday scenario where the only computers available are Google Pixels. You’re allowed to buy what you want. I need a phone anyway. All of them are kinda shit from an openness/repairability standpoint. And personally I’d rather have one device than two if I can.

This does not apply to GrapheneOS, which again you are allowed to install to these devices. Plus they allow use of the linux terminal which people have been experimenting with to run full linux apps (https://www.androidauthority.com/run-desktop-linux-apps-on-android-how-to-3586539/)

They’re not the best, but far from the worst. I’ve done multiple repairs on mine without much issue. There are first party parts and guides available on iFixit.

This feature is a positive change. Enabling people to minimize the number of devices they need has the potential to significantly reduce the amount of ewaste people generate, and makes desktop features more accessible to people who can’t afford multiple devices.

4·1 month agoAny apps that are available on Android can be used with desktop mode, including Collabora and OnlyOffice. I assume there will be variable levels of optimization though since this is still so new.
Edit: Forgot to mention that you should also be able to run linux apps https://www.androidauthority.com/run-desktop-linux-apps-on-android-how-to-3586539/
