this video explains how China’s universal surveillance and “social credit” system, while still harmful, is not built how the western media portrays it. the YouTuber is a Mandarin & Cantonese (& English) speaking sociologist (from Canada).

as a usa person, i previously heard only catastrophic things about the surveillance, and that gave me anxiety about the idea of potentially visiting China. but now i feel only uncomfortable about staying there long term and possibly failing to stay quiet with my criticism of CCP and little pinks.
