Not sure about kbin and mbin but the difference is lemmy is owned by left wing devs who focus on stability while piefed is owned by conservative liberals who focus on bleeding edge and rapidly implementing half baked features (if you like this than good for you I guess, also with lemmy the personal politics of the devs dont really extend much beyond their instance while piefed is more than happy to enforce politics through code).

Its important to keep in mind that in terms of upvotes what you post matters significantly less than where you post to and who happens to see it. One post in the same community on a different instance can initiate the opposite reaction.

Thats because Americans tend to be lazy, apathetic, and generally quite privileged. Most Americans dont want to think about their privilege nor about the suffering needed to perpetuate American dominance. They just want to live in comfort and thinking about these things make them deeply uncomfortable so most choose not to at all.

Depends how far away it is, since I live in NYC my building has a bomb shelter so I would probably attempt to find it quickly (nobody in this city actually knows where the building shelter is).
