The type of RAM that they use is different in that it takes up even more of all the things that would otherwise be used to produce the RAM that you use.
I’d appreciate it if everyone could just stop burning fossil fuels, please. Thank you for your cooperation.

In the good old days of Usenet you could’ve found like-minded people on alt.destroy.the.multiverse.

Philosophers have reasoned that if the universe is infinite, as it appears to some that it might be, then every permutation of all possible configurations of matter and energy will occur infinitely many times. Therefore, everything that happens now will have happened before, and will happen again.

Snack. A salty one please.
If the problem with your old laptop is just that the fan broke, you might be better off just getting a new fan. If you’re near a big city there’s probably a repair shop that will do it.
… although I guess 15 years is a pretty old in computer years. When my laptop died recently I went with a second-hand thinkpad for $300 (edit: not as old as I thought it was, it’s from 2021.) But that was a year ago before prices for everything went crazy.

Sure, sure, and what if Asmodeus is sitting behind you and he bonks you with a trident if you reach for the lever? You could add all kinds of stupid complications to divert the audience if you really want to.

Yeah, I get that. To me the fears about “screen time” seem more akin to past worries about the dangers of technologies like “books” and “bicycles” rather than more direct threats to human health such as asbestos or coal.

I’m ready with this tricky moral dilemma: You’re tied to your seat in a trolley bound for hell, but you can reach the brake lever. Do you try to slow down the trolley, or do you smash the mechanism so that nobody will have a hope of stopping it?
But your post will be deleted in a moment I expect.

My guess would be screen time.
You guess is in the wrong ballpark. It’s unlikely that “screen time” will be found to cause cancer and kill people in painful ways years after they were exposed to it.
I’d bet on PFAS.

I’ve seen some French movies with English subtitles getting things wrong. As well as whatever other problems happen, sometimes it seems obvious that they’re going by what was written in the script and not what was said in the film.
Tier list:

I would guess that they know either much less, or much more than I do about Machiavelli, or they’re speaking ironically. I’d be curious to engage them in conversation to find out which might be the case.
It’s a better way to pay for stuff on the Internet, but it’s not widely available yet.
It is super annoying, slow, and expensive to use as a payment method. I had some ETH from when they were giving it away in fairly substantial amounts to anyone with a GPU back in 2021. I managed to spend it, but it’s hard to imagine any big number of normal people going through that much hassle more than once. And that was before the software ecosystem got to be full of malware.
We really really urgently need a better way to pay for stuff on the Internet. Somebody please make GNU Taler happen.
Can you remind me, am I high right now as well?
According to legend, the problems all started when the landlord found out that Adam and Eve had a pet snake, and they got evicted.

Just think of all the other things that could benefit from a “protective waiting period” to enhance your safety.
Turning off location tracking, using a web browser other than Chrome, using a mail server other than Gmail, visiting duckduckgo.com — if Google really cared about your privacy and security they’d add a 24-hour delay to all these dangerous activities.

Judas, Trismagistus, Skrillex, Hideo, Jamboree, Moonbeam, Barry, Ganon, Hadjar, Boromir, Grendel, Jesus, Annana, Jone, Bess, Roger, Sugarloaf, Ponder, Basil, and Ernest. Those are the best ones, but there are many others.

Sometimes I see posts from some kind of anonymous confessions bot, I think it’s on mastodon. They are often amusing.
Because it’s AI, haven’t you heard? Does it make sense for the business? Who cares, it’s AI. Is it financially sustainable? Dude, it’s AI though. Will there be any customers for any of it? The AI says there will be. You’ve got to understand, this is AI we’re talking about. It’s the AI revolution that will transform the world. We’ve got to bet everything on the AI, or we’ll be left out of the AI future. I asked the AI and it was very clear about that.
