You forget we are in an echo chamber here. Most people not only read the AI summaries, they believe them. Just the other day I saw a normie ask ChatGPT to add up some numbers for them, instead of using a calculator. That’s how entrenched AI has become in their day-to-day. They don’t have to think any more. Thinking is hard. And that’s how Google is able to dominate the web. Steal the data and serve it up as slop that’s good enough for the everyday Joe.

I watched someone in a YouTube video ask ChatGPT to add up some numbers for them, despite having a calculator on their phone. The sheer laziness at the expense of someone else’s energy was impressive. And don’t even get me started on the accuracy.

Sounds a lot like IBM.

Thank you! After reading that I’m surprised Microsoft didn’t issue a statement to clarify, but I guess of all the rumours to run wild, it was fairly innocuous.

At least we’ve got AI to help with journalism now. /s

It came from the mouth of a Microsoft executive, and Microsoft followed up with a statement saying they were moving Windows 10 to a service model.

You’re kind of describing BitTorrent! And it works brilliantly. But it’s still challenging with such huge data archives to get many seeders… who has 390TB spare.

But I think I get what you’re saying, where it’d be nice if you could just say to the internet at large “here’s 5TB of storage to play with on a reasonable internet connection” and the entire universe of torrents would magically figure out what blocks of data to put on your drive to ensure enough duplication for all torrents, regardless of their size.

Instead of trying to make a full electric car, I’m surprised Apple and Google aren’t focusing on making a smart AI “head unit” that’s compatible with third party car manufacturers. The head unit would control all aspects of the car through the CAN bus and also take camera/sensor inputs from the exterior of the vehicle, and be responsible for things like self-driving, lane assist and all those difficult AI-based features.

This way the car manufacturers could focus on what they do best (building safe reliable hardware) and outsource all the hard AI software problems to tech companies who specialise in this area.
