Does it have a practical use? If yes, I agree with your reservations. If no, then someone is going to buy it to either look at or sell to someone else to look at. May as well buy it direct and preserve it respectfully. But I understand and I do appreciate the group-benefit mentality

3D printing. Part of the issue is my main filament-based project needs to be ABS so I don’t have much interest in a starter printer. I also have enough finicky devices that I really don’t want to figure out another. So I landed on the prusa mk3 when that was still the current model and havent committed the money to it. It’s not like I’m starved for solutions given that I can make widgets from wood or aluminum. I even ramped up my steel fab capability with a nice welder that cost half a prusa. So buying a printer has been on a perpetual backburner.

Plus I know solidworks well and the work flows in every other cad infuriates me.

I often make the same argument against myself for limited resources but ultimately, if the resource is affordable, then it probably isn’t rare on the scale that hobbyists would affect it. But then there’s helium, which is somehow not anywhere near abundant enough for the low price they charge to fill a balloon. While hobbyists still wouldn’t affect the supply that much, I don’t like supporting balloons anymore. Weird hill to die on for 95% of people or greater.

The majority of bike lights throw a circle/oval/flood pattern which means they have to be aimed high to be usable. It’s just a flashlight at that point. It’s easy to make a decent beam pattern but neither the manufacturers nor the buyers give a shit.

3: one of my favorite games is live service and only live service. They can’t keep it going forever. It’s not actually played on their servers though, as it’s P2P inatancing in an open world (open galaxy), but there’s some political/faction background systems you can influence, so it all syncs up. I just hope when they’re done, they update it to play solo local they way the first 2 titles were. Will I even care then? I don’t know. I’ve been playing 6 years and it’s been out for 12, but did just get some great updates after a lull. (Elite:Dangerous)

My car’s suspension is currently a pile of old parts below it and new ones in boxes. Trying to be slow and methodical, but it’s daunting. I wanted to do one piece (pair) at a time to assess improvement, but I don’t have the time anymore. So instead, it’s all one long project of aprts amassed across 4 years. Probably going to total over 2 weeks of sitting. Really minor in the grand scheme of things, especially when lensed as a true project car, but this was my weekend car and even my daily for a year, so it’s hard to see that perspective.

But the golden lining is that it means I feel comfortable enough with my other transportation that I can lay this one up for a while.

My favorite mental game is picking a category and going through the alphabet, naming an item for each letter. It’s OK to skip a letter, come back later. You’re still thinking creatively, but the speed is much slower. The “problem” is no longer something threatening you (bills, arguments, chores), it’s just finding a one-word response at a time. Cities, towns but not real cities, desserts, bodies of water, car models, zoo animals, construction materials, colors…

Everything you said, I have nothing to add about movies. Practically anything that wins an award is an original movie.

But I will add on with complaints about movie theaters. The price of popcorn? If you can get through a movie at home without popcorn, you don’t have to buy any at the theater! Crowded/noisy theaters? If you’re waiting for it to stream anyway, then you don’t have to watch it opening weekend because theaters have way lower turnout than pre-2020! Can’t pause it for a bathroom break? Alright, I can agree this is an issue with longer and longer movies and the compulsion to buy 64oz of soda, but listen, I’ve peed in so many movies and never missed any life-changing events.

But I guess it’s a cool bandwagon or something.

I don’t know how to objectively figure this out, but solar panels only convert energy from radiation down to far infrared of 1100nm. Water can absorb longer wavelengths, but solar output has less and less energy output at these wavelengths. However, the mystery is whether or not the panels themselves absorb or reflect such far infrared energy. I’m torn between “it might be the same” and “I’m wrong”

I was thinking about the quote “the rarest material in the universe is wood”. I feel like oil is rarer. I of course get the sentiment about ignoring the beauty on Earth, but realizing there’s probably less oil (and not being able to replace it) just put me in a bummed mood about the human condition.
