Almost no anime do this

I’ve seen many anime do this. Chihayafuru comes to mind.

I dunno about that. I think it’s just much easier to render the clothing that way.

Funny that it wound up being a tree. I often joke that they should let the animators outdoors more often so they know what plants look like. I’ve seen at least two anime now where trees growing on a slope are drawn growing perpendicular to that slope instead of parallel with earth’s gravitational pull. It looks dumb as hell to anyone who’s ever been in a forest before.

Sure one of those anime was an absolute joke anyways (Trails of Cold Steel) but the other one was Re:Zero!

I’ve read this one. It’s not as bad as some people say but it’s also (imo) not good enough to be worth our time with such a stacked season to content against.

I don’t watch a ton of movies, but Redline would be right at the top next to LOOK BACK; Tokyo Godfathers would probably be up there as well.

Had to take a break from my RE:Zero rewatch because Subaru was being too cringe. Holy cow can he be hard to watch sometimes.

Anyways, besides that I’ve started on a few of this season’s new offerings:

• Akane-banashi - Really fun adaptation of a good story, only brought down by Netflix’s shitty subtitles. They are translating little to none of the text in the background, even when that text is extremely relevant. Even when they do translate it they don’t bother with typesetting so it’s a terrible experience. Hopefully a fansub group fixes this at some point but very few people ever seek that sort of thing out these days so who knows.
• Daemons of the Shadow Realm - A great adaptation of a great story, and this time no reservations on how it was translated.
• Snowball Earth - So far the story feels very whimsical. Fun first episode with excellent CGI animation. It’s hard to say what I think of the quality of the writing at this point; I think I’m gonna have to give it a couple more episodes first.

I haven’t started on The Ramparts of Ice because as a Netflix show I’m kinda expecting it to have the same issues as Akane-banashi. I dunno, maybe it’ll be fine.

Well I’ll take fewer high-quality episodes over more low-quality episodes any day. It’s not like I’m remotely short on things to watch!

Didn’t realize this was gonna be a Netflix show. For something that’s primarily people talking I’d prefer better subtitles than that. I guess I’ll just wait.

Fun stuff! I was kinda hoping it would get past the end of the first chapter but I guess if an anime leaves you wanting more that’s probably a good thing.

I can’t say I didn’t feel a little ripped off when I finished the final episode of “Golden Kamuy Final Season” and then another season was announced. But hey, at least that means we get more Golden Kamuy!

Was a fun first episode. It’s competing in a crazy season, but I’ll definitely give the next episode a view as well. Impossible to tell at this point whether it’ll be good or not.

That’s a bummer. I might just wait until some fansubbers get their hands on it then. It’s a popular enough show that I think it stands decent odds of seeing that sort of attention.

I’d say Witch Hat Atelier, Daemons of the Shadow Realm, Re:Zero, and Akane-banashi are all pretty big tent pole shows though!

I was wondering how they were going to wrap things up in one episode. Turns out they weren’t. I feel ripped off.

That said, a train hijacking arc definitely feels like a fitting conclusion to the series. Also, I’m betting Mr. Hood returns. We didn’t see a body, and this isn’t a show that hesitates to show us a body.

RE:Zero is great, but it’s hard to watch. The main character is one of the biggest losers I’ve ever seen in an anime. The show’s saving grace is that the writer actually knows this.

That might be the only isekai I’ve seen, but I don’t think the genre appeals to me.

Most isekai are really bad so you’re not missing much tbh. RE:Zero is good. Konosuba is good. Vision of Escaflowne is good (and very different). There’s so much good stuff airing right now there’s no reason to worry that you’re missing out though.

Wjs018 mentioned Witch Hat Atelier, and I completely agree that that show is going to be incredible. Since you mentioned you liked Fullmetal Alchemist I also want to bring up Daemons of the Shadow Realm. It was written by the same person who wrote FMA and it’s also being animated by the same studio that animated FMA. I’ve read ahead in the manga and it seems really good.

At least it means the dubs probably aren’t being rushed.

It doesn’t seem to help with productivity at all, though. Quite the opposite.

wdym? Have you seen the way the fights in this show are animated? That sort of quality has never been a thing in shows where you were getting seasons 1 year apart.

Honestly Shiraishi too. We’ve got to give him some credit for how reliable he’s been, especially after Sugimoto got shot in the head that one time.

I cannot believe Nikaido’s dream was to rip off Sugimoto’s face, replace it with his own, and finally be with his brother again. What a show.
