  • Honestly, I think you should use them for anti-piracy DRM. Steam’s DRM is easy to crack, and so when we were thinking about how to make our game unpiratable, we just decided to use the Steam Achievements system like a save file. The game just loads the game state based on what achievements the player unlocked. You know, I never talk about this, but I used to work for Blizzard. I was the first second-generation Blizzard employee. But like, I never talk about it, so having worked there really taught me to think outside the box. So yeah, use achievements as DRM. Makes your game unpiratable.

  • Yes, they are more or less the same console by a different name.

Outside of a few extra features the Famicom provided, such as extra sound channels, the baseline console was more or less the same as the NES, and games had essentially the same visual appearance, with similar but different sound. Also some games allowed you to save your progress whereas the NES port may not have had that feature, such as Metroid.

The two are not different enough to really call them different consoles. Its kinda like a base model car, and one trim level up (but not so high like a sport package, just like an appearance package or leather seats only or something).

  • Changed my account password and cancelled my subscription.

In their exit survey, I told them the reason I am cancelling is because “your ‘business’ is a massive cyber security liability, and I do not plan to return unless you give my account the most premium tier eubscription for free, forever.”

So its back to the seas for me. I tried being a good person and doing it legally, but if that comes with the massive caveat that my data is going to be harvested/stolen multiple time, then I would rather pirate. At least if my data gets stolen from malware, I didnt pay for it.

  • DLSS, FSR, XeSS, etc are all great for extending the life of older cards. Unfortunately, the GPU manufacturers found this out pretty early on and keep updating the technology to be more and more performance expensive, meaning you need a newer card to get any benefit.

Therefore no, the new versions are not really worth anything other than artificially boosting your framerate, which at that point just dropping the render resolution will probably give you more or less the same result.

  • PTSD flashbacks of 6 Vox spawning inside buildings, shooting through all obstacles across the map, and straight up teleporting. Meanwhile, you die from random invisible enemies or something.

Surely these bugs have been fixe-- aw who am I kidding, this is Arrowhead’s game. They can’t fix it because they outsourced it so not only do they not play the game, they dont even know how it works.

Fleshmobs and Illuminate still phasing through buildings from back when they were first added to the game, by the way. Wonder why theyre the least popular faction…

  • This is only true if the legal services actually offer good value and have the content the user is looking for.

Most of the time, pirates are too poor to afford legal routes. Sometimes, pirates are new to a hobby and checking out if they want to spend money, who usually switch to legal routes if they like it. Very rarely you get pirates who do it for the love of the game and were never going to pay to begin with.

And then, there is the rarest of all: an actual, countable lost sale for the business. All the previous methods are not lost sales. A business should not be legally allowed to count them because they werent going to get money from those scenarios. But the rarest instance of all is a person that was going to pay legally, and could definitely afford to, but decided to not pay and pirate instead.
