Technology@lemmy.world•Cars are like horses: people will soon realise EVs are just better, claims VW bossEnglish
152·8 days agoIf you can charge at home yeah it’s fine, otherwise you’re fucked. I had an ID3 and could only charge at work or at an expensive charger at a gas station.
I had to plan charging at work otherwise I couldn’t decide on a whim to go see my mum on Sundays. The itinerary took around 60% of the battery in summer and only one charging station in between, which is not working half the time. So either I take 30-60 minutes before going to charge (hoping the charger is working and available), or I can throw the dice and hope the chargers on the way works this time.
It’s not so much range anxiety than the infrastructure around me not being enough.
Edit: and by charge at work, I mean go to the nearest charger near the office and remember to get the car back once full to avoid overtime fees. Work took 3 years to install chargers on the office parking.

4·9 days agoI think that’s the same kind of battery technology as explained in this video. Most certainly not the same chemistry used, but same in principle

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•The totally hypothetical button thought experiment
24·1 month agoExactly, just create the conditions and system so that not pushing the button results in poverty and people will line up to push it
So I guess it fits well in a shit posting community

Like he probably posted enough banned comics to warrant a ban from here?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What does DLSS do, and what's up with DLSS 5?
4·3 months agoFrame gen, in my experience, is worse than upscaling. At least upscaling has some uses (but about 10% of what they say in marketing materials). Frame gen just makes the game have worse latency for disgusting frames that barely look like the base game.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What does DLSS do, and what's up with DLSS 5?
2·3 months agoI sure hope the games run better when enabled, it’s effectively running at lower resolution and upscaling. It’s just a fancy resolution select marketed as genuine improvements.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What does DLSS do, and what's up with DLSS 5?
241·3 months agoIt makes games run worse and look horrible because devs now target dlss performance mode for 60fps on medium hardware. The game is rendered at 720p and blurred to death until you can’t notice the half rendered frame and pixelated effects that depend on it (and TAA).
It’s also a marketing ploy to lie to consumers, saying their cards get 3x the performance of the previous Gen, by generating fake frames in between real ones. Displaying garbage but because the benchmark say 100+fps, it must be better right? Even though there are more presentation errors, latency is through the roof and the result is insane.
DLSS 5 continues the trend of lies by simply putting a yassification filter on top, lies to the dev, and lies to the consumers.
Yes but the language ecosystem is a moving target
Forever? When every new python version breaks compatibility with the previous?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My fellow 'Muricans, do you prefer metric or standard measurements?
1·3 months agoThat’s incidental:
he adjusted the scale so that the melting point of ice would be 32 degrees, and body temperature 96 degrees, so that 64 intervals would separate the two, allowing him to mark degree lines on his instruments by simply bisecting the interval 6 times (since 64 = 2⁶).

4·3 months agoIt’s the same in most of Europe afaik. You can’t be filmed as a primary subject without consent. For example, I can photograph you in the background of a monument or in nature, without having to ask your consent.
It’s the same for dashcams, you are filming the road primarily not the pedestrian.Edit: even better, in France (and iirc in Belgium too) I can photograph you as a primary subject without consent, but I cannot reproduce or distribute the picture of you without your consent.
Look up “Droit à l’image” if you want to know more.
Edit2: Hungary seems to have laws like I initially described, so taking pictures of videos in public should be okay as long as more than 1 person is visible on it.

Nope?
