I remember in one of the Coloured Fairy Books https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Langs’_Fairy_Books and I’m not going to try to find which one, there was a story where a kid was hanging out with the fairies and they went to a house and his in the thatch. They sprinkled pepper on the daughter so she’d sneeze. “If she sneezes 3 times without a bless-you, we can steal her!” She does twice, no blessings. On the 3rd sneeze the kid yells BLESS YOU at the top of his lungs, the fairies scatter and she’s saved. So at the very least, I make sure nobody is stolen by the fairies. Colored or otherwise. Consent matters.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you could become a character and enter any universe and that becomes your permanent life what universe would you pick?
3·3 days agoSince you’ve met Tiffany you should meet Eskarina and get a backdoor exploration into Unseen University. So try Equal Rites. Then for more wizards you can go back one to The Light Fantastic, or keep moving forward to explore the whole Discworld and read 'em all. They each have unique qualities, a motley of new and recurring characters, and insights into some of the better and nastier aspects of our own world.
I like publication order, but if you just happen upon any of them someplace, read it. And as you’ll know already, his Young Adult writing is really only a matter of having a young protagonist. So don’t sleep on The Amazing Maurice either. It’s profound.

7·4 days agoPratchett’s Wizard Magic and Witch Magic are quite different styles but all the Discworld books are Good at a minimum and your taste will determine which are Beyond Excellent.

Or gay. We don’t actually know that much about Joseph except that he handled a lot of wood.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do movie theaters work? Which seats in theaters are the best? (never done this before) Also is the IMAX thing actually any different?
6·11 days agoGoing at a more popular time is a different experience and can be better in its own way. More different from watching alone at home. Individual audience members can be annoying but a good audience enhances your enjoyment as they react to the same moments with you.
Don’t worry, they know what to do
Thank you Maxxus, it’s been a long night and you just made facing the day worthwhile
Look how EFFICIENT you are!
Usually when I do that it’s more like who’s the klutz.
As a coffee preferer myself, I think if you have tea you’d be allowed a compensatory biscuit.
It did say “probably”! I think that’s your loophole. Just pick a “Vic #1” type target.
(As in whodunnits where everyone has a motive to kill THAT guy)
Trading seats with Silent Bob.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Could my daughter, who is a lawyer, defend my son’s girlfriend, who killed my cousin’s family in a DUI accident?
1·18 days agoWhy “daughter” and “child” then? Not daughters, age 16 and 2, or daughter and son? If it were the reverse I’d assume the teen was nonbinary but it’s unusual in a toddler

43·20 days agoYour cousin’s daughter was made pregnant and gave birth at 14, then she and her toddler were killed by a drunk driver? I sincerely hope this story really is hypothetical. Otherwise my deepest sympathy to her, and condolences to anyone who loved those poor children.
Oh, and your daughter should refer the case because whether or not it’s legal, she could be forced into a position that destroys her relationships in the family.

1·20 days agoMy childhood was in Los Angeles in the early 1960s, so it’s possible the cartoon’s author had a similar background and Dwayne is a humorous twist on Deem.

Might as well put it back down on the table where it will be stable and Fluffy can curl up comfortably. It’s got a lid after all. Or better yet, put it on the floor. For cats, low is boring.

After the 🐘🐘🐘🐘 it’s all Turtle. But The Great A’Tuin doesn’t stand on anything. It/She/He/They swims through space, with a purpose and destination unknown to us.
