  • Not very much actually. Because of the way windmills are designed it would be very hard to spin the blades by applying power to the generator, and even if you overcame that obstacle somehow the design of the blades would make it so it wouldn’t really push that much air.

Windmills gather the torque from the giant blades and pass it to a strong shaft that is connected to a gearbox which converts the torque into high rotational speed. That rotational speed is then transferred from the gearbox to the generator through a smaller shaft that is designed for high speed rotation. If you try to reverse the rotation you would need to put in enough torque through that smaller shaft to overcome the inertia of the blades, since the shaft is not designed for higher torques it would most likely snap.

The blades themselves are airfoils designed to specifically generate the highest lift when wind is applied from a specific direction. Similar to how plane wings are designed to generate lift when air moves over them from a specific direction. That also means that if you make them move in reverse they would not generate that much lift so they wouldn’t actually push the air around. It would be like trying to take off with a plane by accelerating it backwards.

  • I always found the whole snitch thing so stupid simply from a game rules perspective. Like most team sports have you work as a team to score points. Everyone participates and are more or less responsible for the outcome of the game. In quidditch you have that and then you have one team member that is just more special than everyone else, they can just control the outcome of the game by themselves. It goes against the whole concept of team sports.

  • The other guy counterspells your counterspell (I hate what they did to that spell in DnD 5e).

Also there are more ways to stop Power Word Kill than counterspell. It requires a verbal component so if you can prevent the caster from speaking they can’t cast it. It’s an instant death effect so the spell Death Ward also protects you from it’s effects. Oh it only has a 60 ft range so you can just stay out of the range of the spell and just negate it.

  • Everyone coming up with conspiratorial reasons why this is not the case but it’s much simple than that. It’s not feasible and it’s expensive and the returns aren’t really worth it.

Kids in school have a bunch of other subjects they have to learn besides foreign languages. You can add one or two languages but then at some point you will need to remove other subjects to add more or you need to keep kids in school even more. Both are not really feasible. Then you need to hire teachers for all these new languages which most places won’t do.

Another issue is with the way they teach languages in schools. They expect you to pass a test and not actually learn the language so a lot of the languages will not “stick” as the students lack immersion and practice with that language. I can speak for myself, I have learned two languages besides my native language in school: French and English. I had French since 2nd grade, which is 10 years of French classes and English since 5th grade which is 7 years of English classes. Today I can speak English fluently and like 3 words of French. The difference was that I was always immersed in English, though video games, movies, songs and so on. Not so much with French. I have noticed the same pattern with most of my friends and family members.
