It sure would be nice if the posts were the links directly to the artists own site, not rehosted elsewhere, that way the clicks might benefit them. It happens from time to time, but doesn’t seem to be commonplace. Hopefully when the mod returns, some changes will help shape this community for the better.

It’s not really occurred to me before that people make alts to manipulate votes here. I never saw karma as relevant even back on Reddit. I have some other accounts but mainly for when lemmy.world stops working. Seems quite narcissistic to spite vote with alts.

I agree, it’s unrealistic any user would dish out three times more downvotes than upvotes. All on posts too, none on comments? Certainly an alt, your instincts are surely correct.

This must be a holdover from Reddit? Last week I was having a conversation when the user suddenly pointed out they’d accumulated upvotes where I hadn’t and therefore was correct. I was the one upvoting their comments for contributing to the discussion.

When I pointed this out, they downvoted my comments haha.

You figured correctly. In fact I just looked and while I had seen the ‘motion’ post, I just gave it a vote and went on my merry way. Didn’t notice there was an upheaval going on.

I skimmed through a fair amount of the offender’s comments, and I could sort of see someone making a mistake and lashing out in refusal to admit they messed up, but as you say, the doubling down makes it seem they actually believe it.

The community mod sure is in for a surprise when they return. Hopefully it gets sorted out quickly.

I wasn’t aware of that context, I haven’t seen whatever post where that was said. Obviously that’s the take of an imbecile, signing one’s own art far predates anything akin to modern advertising.

What’s the temperature on posts that didn’t have the citation wherever the poster found it? Would the etiquette here be to link to that reddit post, or simply not post any content that lacks artist attribution?

I’m thinking specifically the other day something was posted where the only source another user could find was it’s previous reddit post with the citation already cropped out. I checked myself and had the same result.

Not to them it’s not. Proportionally, it’s more than what many can afford. Just like how your fuel prices are dirt cheap to someone living in Hong Kong.

To my reading, both ‘fee’ and ‘billed’ indicate the customer will be charged an amount to regain access. If it were as you suggest, I think it would have been worded differently, to provide more benefit to the customer. Maybe something along the lines of:

‘When you are ready to come back, your membership reactivation will be prorated to reflect freeze term payments.’

As it is, I can see both interpretations. Which might be on purpose to surprise people who turn up at the gym after a few months break, banking on an eye roll and the fee to be paid so they can get on with their workout.

Am I reading this right that to reactivate they’d be charging the difference they ‘lost’ during the freeze term? Wild.

It’s worth noting there’s a difference between a heckler video and a crowd work video. If the performer solicits audience participation, that’s not them being heckled.

That said, many comedians do several shows a week, some even doing multiple spots a night. These days, most of them record their sets - and the audience, to a degree. When they amass so much footage, it’s easy enough to have a video now and then involving a heckler.

Of course, sometimes, some things do get ‘scripted’ with the audience. This is a funny example of a bit Gianmarco Soresi did using the audience to get this clip parodying a Rocket Money ad.

Most of that isn’t too important. The real failure you neglected to mention is the loss of the negative reinforcement that comes with coal based energy generation. If we keep burning the stuff, the big man can’t give out as many lumps to the bad children, and so they grow up to be criminals running big companies.

Brennan Lee Mulligan touched on this briefly in a podcast (1:03:24) and gave his own example about taking some of books off his bookshelf and what he does with them. It’s difficult to grapple, and nuance is always going to play a role.

Everyone does some things right and other things wrong. Generally it takes repeated or extreme action in either direction to taint a person in the minds of others. I doubt many people have prints of Hitler’s artworks framed and hung, but loads still listen to music by Michael Jackson regularly. It’s all about context, I think. Trevor Noah’s recent example is pretty similar to this topic. A slur in one place can hold no meaning in another.

It’s very much a spectrum of our own beliefs, our joys, and the things we find repulsive. Like spilling black paint on a watercolour rainbow. To some it might go in the bin, others might still see the beauty in what remains. So long as you don’t hang it on the wall because of the black stains, I’d say you’re fine whichever you choose.

Probably just the law of large userbases. The more people around, the more rude people there are likely to be. Rude people are always a minority, but they tend to be more vocal.

A large portion of fediverse users have abandoned Reddit for moral or ethical reasons. So while occasionally people will be rude here, it tends to skew more towards polite discussion.
