I’ve been really enjoying art that implements a light aspect… for example Seontae Hwang’s use of backlit panels to show incoming light, or Lucinda Dilworth’s use of projection mapping to animate their paintings.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something that most people normally do that you find weird?
192·14 days agoMy personal goal is to give my dog 1 million kisses in his lifetime because I know he’ll only be around for 10-15 years. It sounds like you’ve never had a pet or an animal rely on you and I’m sorry for that/I find that weird 🤷🏽♀️
TIL you can assign custom tags to people… can users see what they’ve been tagged as?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever stopped at a cheesy tourist trap "landmark" that turned out to be kinda cool? What was it?
2·2 months agoRock City Gardens near Chattanooga would be my recommendation. Super cool cave system, canyon and trail with waterfalls and scenic views. We decided to stop there on a whim after seeing billboards advertising it from hundreds of miles away. It was a welcome break from a long drive!

As you mentioned in your post, it’s almost impossible to pick just 5 favorite singular works… so here are some of the top active artists that I currently adore (in no particular order)
- Guido Llordi, kinetic painter
- Tomislav Topić, muralist and fabric installations
- Smallwhitemonster, painter
- Seontae Hwang, backlit lightbox art
- Pieter Van Hooydonck/Kras Glass, stained glass artist
- Stevie Shao, muralist and painter
- Aura Terrariums, stained glass artist
… this list will probably change by next week

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a good Documentary/movie that would break conservative without demonizing them on a personal level?
5·3 months agoI would highly recommend Blue Bayou, it’s about a Korean-American man in Louisiana raised by adoptive parents, but never got the proper paperwork to be considered a citizen. Amazing film, had me tearing up.

I agree. Understanding that the visuals might be highly regarded, I truly don’t know of anyone in my network who goes to see these sequels. It makes me wonder if the numbers for viewership are inflated.
