I don’t remember it from Seinfeld, but it totally tracks with the feel of their jokes. Sadly I haven’t seen Curb Your Enthusiasm or It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (figured that one was similar), they are on my list for if the wife ever gets into shows like that (I was able to get her into The Office and Parks and Rec which really weren’t in her wheelhouse).

When they are late, I tell the front desk to re-schedule and leave. I’ve had the dentist complain once or twice over the years but when two entities decide on a time for a meeting, that’s the time it needs to happen. Unlike the office, I’m having to cancel stuff I would normally be doing to be there, they are not.
Eventually I’ll be old and grumpy enough to start sending them bills for late cancellation (probably joking).

Technology@lemmy.world•Artemis II Astronauts Have ‘Two Microsoft Outlooks’ and Neither WorkEnglish
2·6 days agoJudging by the two Outlooks installed on my cooperate machine I’m guessing Outlook and Outlook (classic) are the two installed… Though they could have “Outlook for Windows” installed too as I see it offering it to me via the Windows store.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Save me from going down a dark path
1·6 days agoI’m in the camp that I’ll bite a little, they just have to let me know who the “higher power” is. Require me to make up a floaty ghost that is responsible for everything and all the good stuff is a miracle, but all the bad stuff is from a weaker being that the higher power just ignores… Well that seems a bit like a cop-out.
If that really is who they want me to follow, will they keep PETA off my back, I’ve had a few rough crops and I think I remember a passage that will help… I just gotta find some find some “clean animals”.

Technology@lemmy.world•Android's new developer verification rollout begins, sideloading changes are nextEnglish
4·8 days agoI would personally like to just go back to calling it installing, but I doubt that is even less likely than getting back “-lications” to my programs (just a dumb joke about how applications slowly became apps).
Its all good though, I’m just an old man bitching on the internet.
What about before app stores were a thing?
If I have to install an app store I don’t consider it to be the ‘official’ method. By default my phone doesn’t have it, a lot of android forks don’t, but if I have to break the law to add it, I guess I’ll stick with manually installing packages.

1·8 days agoBeen using them for a hot minute, been rocking one flavor of the Linux kernel on my phone since the release of the Motorola Droid back in like 2009-2010.

Technology@lemmy.world•Android's new developer verification rollout begins, sideloading changes are nextEnglish
102·8 days agoI’ve had the play store install, remove, and modify installed applications without so much as a hint they were doing it, the “Play Store” does what would be considered “sideloading” applications (i. e. a third party app managing your applications from a location other than the package manager), feeding an apk to a package manager would just be “installing” an application like it always has been.
By co-opting the term to be something bad, they are trying to make it seem like they are the only safe source for applications (even though the Google-managed stores have just as much malware as WinMX did 20+ years ago).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a good age bracket for this pile of trash I found on my land?
3·13 days agoYeah, based off the radio and memories I’d put it late 90s early 00s. All my radios from the 80s-mid-90s had much more squared corners.
I’m a fan of scroll lock, not too useful but powershell is more than happy to turn it on and then back off 200ms later at random intervals… All while showing me a countdown to quitting time and a day counter until I’m out the door.

Technology@lemmy.world•This is Android's new 'advanced flow' for sideloading apps without verification, includes one-day waiting periodEnglish
6·19 days agoI’m so glad I don’t ‘sideload’ anything, never learned how. I have been installing software since the 90s though and it’s pretty much the same as always.
Joke aside, it really seems more like ‘sideloading’ when you go to a store, to ask it to install something on your phone instead of just installing it directly on the device.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•In a zombie apocalypse where do you hold up assuming you can secure any location you chose?
3·21 days agoI don’t know, the old zombie flick ‘Shock Waves’ (1977)… Not typical zombies but it made the island approach seem a little less viable to me. It’s still better than my default choice of a mall.

2·1 month agoI haven’t used it in the past few months, I’ll definitely give it another try though.
Edit: Oh, yeah this is a bit different. I like the new prompt asking if it’s extended or desktop. I will definitely have to play with it a bit more, I had tossed it to the back of my brain as a ‘well it exists’ feature.

14·1 month agoIt works okay, but not great for me. I toss my phone on one of my old laptops docking station at work, but some apps like to force a shit resolution. It is pretty neat having them in moveable windows though.

1·2 months agoPersonally when I need something and have seen an ad for a product that fits the need, I’ll buy it. If I’ve seen the ad so much that it’s seared into my brain, I search for the product and buy the ripoff version of it (when possible), or I DIY it.
Edit: corrected autocorrect
Obviously the reset isn’t quite sticking, otherwise why so much deja vu?
