Inaction is still an action. Not improving the world around you is a choice to accept it. You need to choose your battles, of course, but choose none and I will judge you accordingly.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why does the Fediverse (Mastodon/Lemmy) seem to have more momentum than Nostr wouldn't you think it'd be better for the degoogle crowd and the people whom value privacy?
1·5 days agoYou’d have to register and be accepted, same as Mastodon. The difference is that the Mastodon instance you post from “owns” your identity.

3·6 days agoYeah, I started reading about it and felt like “yeah ok the protocol design goal is interesting. May solve Mastodon’s issue of losing your “identity” when switching instance. Let’s see how/if they managed to make it work…”
Then I got to a list of testimonials and the first one was by Uncle Bob saying something about “freedom” and fuck me if that guy isn’t a red flag on fucking fire.
Further reading did not impress.
So yeah looks like it’s more of a dipshit culture war totem than a technology.
Copy-pasting stuff in order to annoy people, then belittle and argue with them when they are annoyed as if you are being attacked.
From this, an urge urge to compare yourself with one of the great thinkers.
Just… Chill. Handle some discourse, will ya?

4·10 days agoBecause the reasons you have for not actively effecting this change apply to everyone else as well.
True. Culture, history, etc as an experience is valid.
It is where people pretend it is important to quality and taste, I call bullshit.
As for the experience… If the old bearded Italian man who served you traditional cheesemelt pig in wooden clogs while singing Por Trancone Parditto were to, say, replace the cheese with Swedish Gulost and not tell you… You would have the same experience.
Not saying it’d be the same, but that the food taste and quality are entirely separate from the authenticity.
Ah I see you are enjoying yourself. Would you care to know that you are, in fact, enjoying yourself incorrectly?
There is no joy to be had the way you are doing it. If there is, it is a fault in your character.
Tradition and authenticity is bullshit.
Food from good ingredients prepared well matters more than if the cheese was stared at for two hours by the sheepwife of the mayor of Scrumthrorpeshireffield.
For example: Wine tasters were clear that French wine just tasted better than Californian wine. They were extremely convinced. Then they tried a blind test and hoo boy did everyone get pissed when they couldn’t tell the French wine was better without knowing it was French first. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judgment_of_Paris_(wine)

2·16 days agoA Celebrity Does A Grift.
This happens a lot.
In crypto, it usually goes like this: Celebrity makes a coin. Uses fans goodwill to make them buy in. Coin gets rugpulled (oh no!) as in the celebrity and their tech friend cash out and leave the fans with a dead coin worth 1% of what they paid.
The celebrity will then say they were flimflammed. Fooled. Duped. Tricked. Teary apology. Very sad. Victim like you and me. Very also kept the advance $50k from the tech people. Also kept the cash they got from rugpulling. Don’t ask about that.
