By now I think everyone realizes this has nothing at all to do with protecting children, it’s about surveillance.

These “public authorities” are not going to regulate algorithms, and impose stricter controls, as those do nothing to achieve their true goals.

We really need to stop promoting the charade by playing along that they are honest actors. They are lying about their goals, we need to call them out on the lies.

We’re confused because we can’t see the cereal. But, coffee on cereal is a grand idea, I’m not surprised I never thought of it--it’s rare for me to have good ideas.

Avoiding the pain and humiliation doesn’t make it go away. Realize that by doing that it will be with you the rest of your life.

The only way to make it fade is to face it, embrace it, admit it, and experience it, with an eye toward learning from it. Then, you can put it behind you. Your mind is trying to do the right thing for you, that’s why it’s nagging you to face it.

You do it by stopping resisting.

This is capitalism, so in that context the boss is right. He doesn’t care about you beyond what profit you can make for him personally, and beyond whatever the letter of the law requires him to care about you. You’re a replaceable piece of wetware that he will quickly trade out for a better performing piece, if that means less hassle, and/or more profit for him. And, it sounds like he might be on the edge of doing just that.

This is the world we’ve allowed to be built, and by our acquiescence, live in.

Exactly this, there are people there whose job it is to help. Ask for help so they can do their job, and earn their paycheck. You’re helping them by asking for help.

Sometimes I feel like social anxiety has been purposely promoted by big business to keep people helpless and ignorant. This is coming from a 60-year-old introvert--and, instead of rejecting my opinion because I’m old, you should accept it as a bit of learned wisdom I’m trying to pass on. I learned that I can do it. You can do it too, if you make a small amount of uncomfortable effort.

The manager should be sitting up on the edge looking down.

I know that I wouldn’t tell him. I won’t judge other choices to be “right” or “wrong”.

Also, I probably wouldn’t ask him to help again, with anything critical.

This is what I did with my kid… after the divorce. Before the divorce she did the “stay at the table till you’ve cleared the plate”, etc.

I wasn’t raised that way, and I didn’t agree with it, but she insisted.

I’m glad I got divorced, it was such a relief. I’m probably not supposed to admit that out loud, but it’s true. To be clear, this wasn’t the reason we got divorced, it just irked me.

If it’s just a checkbox, “yes, has a degree”, to get you to the next round of the interview, and it really doesn’t mean anything for your field, then do it.

Eventually, if you need the knowledge taught, and you don’t have it, you’ll be discovered and fired. This is true whether you have the piece of paper, or not.
