There is some kind of incentive structure to look this fucked up. There is a whole different world where looking like a parody of yourself is virtue signaling, shows that you can afford to look like such a cartoon. It’s the same reason maga face is a thing. Humans aren’t attracted to it physically, but you can tell they that they have enough money to do that to themselves and not have to feel embarrassed.

Agreed, this is pretty much what they were back when I used them. This was well before tinder or whatever the big one that disrupted the industry is/was.
Funny enough, despite me being extremely happily married for over 18 years now, I still cannot get my damned email off their spam lists. I’ve abandoned that address so I don’t much care, but they really don’t seem confident in their matches apparently :)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you seen someone you personally know|knew in porn? If so, who?English
10·4 days agoBarely counts but my former roommate dated a girl who was trying to break in. She danced and stripped, and had her own website. I never looked though, wasn’t the type I cared to see naked…
I met my wife on a dating app, but it was over 20 years ago now. I suspect that like everything they all have evolved to capture your eyeballs as much as possible. Back when I used them, they were about meeting people, they hadn’t yet gamified them with the swipes and so forth.
So, not surprised, a little sad to hear it even, since I can’t imagine being a young person and trying to meet new people these days. Then again, as an aspiring Luddite these days, I hope people find a way to connect in real life.

1·9 days agoBecause they are short and my ceilings are tall. We also cook a lot and with kids, smoke happens. So, the requirement from the wife was being able to silence remotely.

8·9 days agoYeah, I went with LG because I wanted to try an OLED, and the price was right. Never buying anything from them again, and whatever tv I do buy next I’ll disable all the shit from the get-go.
I’ve always been privacy minded, but things have gotten so bad, and I’ve gotten complacent. Hell, I just bought a connected smoke alarm system because my wife and kids needed something they can mute remotely. Should have just bought a stick instead.
I need to replace my WiFi, about time I get one with real VLAN support, so I can build an isolated guest/IoT network.

10·9 days agoIt’s not super specific, and makes sense for where I saw it, but I’ll never forget the Wisconsin tourist trap I drove past as a kid that has a big sign out front advertising “Cameras, Cheese and Guns”.

30·9 days agoI thought I had disabled everything but mine was still connected to WiFi. Thanks for the reminder. I disconnected it and blocked it at the router.
Tired of doing this for so many devices. We truly live in a full on surveillance state.

5·13 days agoI actually replaced my suv with a full sized truck last year. Funny enough my average mileage went up from 17 to 28mpg. Hybrids rule.
(Yes, 28 is still shit, but much better and more useful shit than I had before).
Are you saying it’s crap even though the writer put skill into the unique description, but used a tool to make a picture based on it?
Yes, they are entirely different domains. Thats like saying if someone painted a very beautiful picture, with effort and detail. Then claimed authorship over stories written about the subject.
Inspiration is a real thing, and should be lauded, but it still takes skill and an eye for art to render a scene. When someone gets a tattoo, do they usually claim they were the artist, should I? I have an extremely detailed idea for one I’d like to get, colors picked out, subject, poses, etc. but I am not skilled enough to render it, nor put it on my body. I’ve got a great design, but no art.
I miss practical effects. They are just so much more raw. The highly polished CGI that is everything these days is just visually boring to look at. I am not interested in the next flashy gimmick, anything that you can dream up is now possible to show on screen, so the fast paced stupid action doesn’t hit home at all anymore.

I do wish she had been more outspoken, but her actions spoke loud enough. Dolly has always a force for good and compassion, and the things she supported were incompatible with the hate that so many politicians dedicate themselves to.

2·24 days agoI miss my Nokia 8210. I had a case for it that slid open like the one at the start of the matrix. Dropped it in a puddle one night, pulled it out the next morning, dried it off and it kept working just fine. Had no waterproof rating.
I waded into a pool with my supposedly waterproof iPhone in my pocket by accident and it immediately died.

2·25 days agoAllen Pan still puts out something amusing once in a while.
I miss the days of 3 minutes of insanity. Now every video is 25 minutes, and it’s all personality driven. It’s turned into regular TV.
We need a classic YouTube type site back again where people share shit for the fun of sharing. Monetization killed the platform.
