I think the guy in the photo misses the point of falling living standards, assuming the caption is an accurate description of his main point. A bit stereotypical and caricaturized, maybe, but there certainly are real life people who think and act like that.

Like, they feel the pinch, and that part is real. But then they believe the BS that they’re spoonfed about “this is because of those socialists trying to uplift the poor and grant rights to everyone,” instead of waking up and realizing “this is because of the oligarchs dismantling welfare and social safety nets, siphoning the means of life and livelihood to the top where they jealously hoard the wealth of the nations produced by the blood, sweat, and tears of the working class from whom the surplus value of that production gets appropriated.”

And guess who’s telling them the lie about it being the fault of the marginalized, oppressed, and powerless? That’s right, the greedy oligarchs making away with record profits while enshittifying everything we depend on, and using millions of dollars to bribe politicians into serving corporate interests instead of the interests of their constituents. Spending more money each year on union-busting than they would on paying fair wages and benefits. Spending more on political donations than they would on taxes.

I’m not saying that the people who believe those lies and act on them (or vote according to them) are in any way excusable, so don’t read me wrong there.

I’m simply saying that “Yes, the point is being missed. But it’s arguably okay for OP to lampoon the people missing the point the hardest.”

As long as it doesn’t fall into the “blaming every white male” territory, which is a toxic and counterproductive overgeneralization. Which, yes, some people in the comments have already veered towards. Which, yikes, you know. But I don’t think OP is necessarily to blame for that…
