You have no clue what is or isn’t being developed with AI. That’s a fact.

Enjoy the easy dunks if you must, but I would argue that most of the software you use today is being developed alongside AI.

So I can point at any software, and you can tell me whether it’s clean and blessed and pure vs coded with AI?

Meme all you want if that helps you cope

With a reasonable degree of accuracy, in most cases, yes, I can. I have been doing this for damn near 20 years.

I cannot overemphasize how little I care about your opinion or pithy retorts.

You absolutely can not, regardless of how much code you’ve written, period stop.

That’s preposterous, saying you know how any program comes together by looking at it?

            That’s delusion

It’s not, they are correct. There are so many telltale signs of AI code it’s not even funny. The most obvious being the absolutely garbage comments that people invariably leave in. And the god awful naming of things.

But it’s more than that. If you’re in this industry long enough, you get pretty good at reconstructing a real author’s thought process when they wrote the code. Part of understanding code is understanding why it was written the way that it was, which means understanding how the author thought. Sure, there was plenty of garbage code and stupid thinking, but it was still thought and usually had its own kind of internal consistency. AI code has no thought process, no reason. It is pure mimicry, an amalgamation of millions of authors all at once. It has no internal consistency. It produces code no human ever would, because it doesn’t make any fucking sense. It’s like reading an alien language, where the constructs it produces are so aberrant to how any human would ever think that it could be nothing but an LLM.

I definitely can’t tell you everything about a piece of code by reading it, but I sure as hell can smell an LLM in it, because it fucking stinks.

Companies have been very forthcoming with their AI use and development, actually.

And you can tell when it starts getting used. Suddenly the UI will be replaced with the ubiquitous Clod™ look. Then the bugs and awful performance start rearing their head. If you use programs, it’s plainly obvious that the quality of software over the last year has plummeted.

Except they do, because it says so in the article. It even says it in the title of the article if you’re too lazy to open the link

In an internal messaged reviewed by Bloomberg, a game director supposedly told staff there would be “no more hand-written code”

      Seems pretty straightforward to me.

This isn’t alongside though, according to Tim they’re not allowed to write any code themselves
