This project is awesome. I love me some tetris, and most of the time I am content with playing the NES version. But it doesn’t have the QOL features tetris’ new entries have added over the years. I play on my phone, so I could download the official Tetris app, but it is sadly infested with ads and microtransactions and I’m not withstanding all that to clear some lines on the go. Enter Apotris, a tetris “clone” with all the niceties of modern tetris, and fully open source! It has features like block preview, hold mechanic, extendable list of queued blocks, and a variety of skins so you choose the one you feel sits right with you! Not only that, the gameplay is buttery smooth and I love how they added a little rumble animation that is pretty satisfying to see. I use the gba version with an emulator, but it is also supported across multiple platforms. It really comes off a game made with lots of care and love put into it. So, if you ever get the itch to play some tetris, give Apotris try!

Can confirm, Apotris is awesome. It also has native ports that make it easy to play on other systems. I’m using the Game Boy Advance version to play it on my retro handheld. Really neat. I love that it optionally includes the Tetris Effect mechanic of filling a bar to stop time.

As someone who considers Tetris the grand master series the definitive way to play Tetris what sets Apotris apart?

I’d say its customization and flexibility sets it apart, as having a gba rom makes it playable on virtually anything these days. I say “definitive way” because my playtime is usually done on my phone, and I haven’t found an alternative I liked better for my use case. TGA might appeal more to those who are specially sensitive to input lag, like speedrunners, while Apotris gets the basics right and lets you play on a long queue.

I can recommend it is well. I am by no means a Tetris expert, but when I play it on the Steam Deck, it’s either Tetris Effect Connected (for the amazing visuals with HDR and the great soundtrack) or the GBA version of Apotris (for the smooth gameplay).

Nice those are my favorites too.

I wish Tetris effect had the option to have community music and levels as well.

As a someone who love tetris, apotris is awesome, i love the customization, i only wished for a gravity mod on it, i can’t recall the version i played than the blocks fall over the empty spaces
