Morsi won office in a popular election, lasted barely two years, and then was couped and imprisoned.
I wouldn’t call that interm period a dictatorship, if for no other reason than it stood in stark contrast to the periods immediately before and after. There was no well-defined national leader. Bureaucrats were still shuffling around and rebuilding a power base, before settling on el-Sisi.
No no, sisi was also elected and wanted very much so by everyone, two things can be true at once. Yes, we did elect morsi, yes, we did elect sisi (first time atleast), No. Both were and are fucking horrible in their own ways. One caused major major MAJOR unsafety, Egypt was a fucking warzone somtimes, the amount of citizens that died was insane due to islamic extremists, we’re a muslim majority country yet get along perfectly with christians and have done so for so long, Morsi, well the man pulling the strings behind the scenes wasnt him… morsi was just a facade of who the leader is, were a bunch of religious extremists that did what 95% of shitty people do, promise so much. Sisi has done the same, Egypt has always been under dictatorship and will remain so until people stop being so ignorant and desperate.
