This design looks so cheap to me, it’s just a bunch of random covers, there is no information about the movies presented in any way, the covers are way too big and take up an inordinate amount of space and there is nothing breaking up sections, design is just so fucking dumb now, fuck mobile

What was was so great about web design in 2012? It was barely any different back then except for being much worse on phones. And the main reason for your complaints is the need to accommodate phones and tablets.
If it were 2012 now I’m almost certain you’d be whining that we need to go back to the nonresponsive table designs of the 90s

You’re right, but 2012 is when they started paying too much attention to mobile and it started to bleed into everything else.
The 90s was clearly better, UI-wise, so yes, I wish people would go back to that.
