The US is fucked on AI leadership, because we’re fucked on manufacturing leadership. It’s a fluke of geology we have control of pure enough silicon right now, and that’s not likely to be a barrier for long. China is about to eat our lunch in every area of research now that the US has killed funding and chased away the best students. What happened with manufacturing, is about to happen with tech and academia. Europe, India, Japan and Australia will siphon off a little bit, but China is going to be dominant for the next 20 to 50 years most likely. And probably won’t be overtaken by the US again.

It won’t be next week, but over the next decade China is very much going to be taking the global stage. The US has handed them economic dominance on a silver platter.

Not in the least, and the larger your corp, the more AI just just a shiney buzzword thing that must be attained.

What gets a lot of them hooked is that it gives them a new set of metrics to measure productivity. It doesn’t matter in the least that they’re meaningless metrics. It gives them a chart with a line, so it must be mana from the gods.

That’s the real difference to me, maintenance. Planes have a strict schedule of inspection and replacement. Moms minivan last saw an oil change before the kids made it to middle school. There’s going to be some failures.

That’s going to be very interesting to see failure rates and modes on the road over time.

Nothing you type on the internet is truly private, if it were, you wouldn’t be allowed to do it.

AI is getting so intrusive I’m considering a land line.

“Get a job doing something you live doing.” Only if you want to learn to hate something you loved. Doing anything as work builds resentment, you’re better off finding something you can tolerate. Save the stuff you love for hobbies or as a last resort your own business, not working for anyone else.

Good doctors often have more incentive to overbook, and even less incentive to stop bad office practices as long as people keep putting up with it.

I give them 5 minutes unless there’s an emergency, then it’s 15. After that I reschedule, or move to a different doctor.

Any practice that can’t keep a schedule, isn’t worth working with. Worst case scenario, take a vacation to Mexico and talk to a doctor there. Cheaper, faster, and probably better care than a US general practitioner.

It wasn’t what I’d call a highway vehicle, but it would get your around town. No power, but it weighed nothing so they were ok for slow off road use. If you draft a big enough semi you can get them up to 85.

While I don’t have a problem with executions, the evidentiary standards to prevent innocent deaths make the practice essentially arbitrary. It’s better and more affordable to just lock them away forever. Some countries do go so far as to always allow a possibility of parole, but I don’t think their methods would translate as well to other nations.

Death penalty on the spot, no exceptions.

Women tend to dominate care positions, nursing, teaching, and child care. None of them are going to be touched by AI, other than massive head aches caused in teaching kids to lazy to learn. Outside of those, women are in no different position than men when facing automation.

Sci-fi as it’s not based around magic, even though the technology as presented often appears magical in nature.

Most of the time for me it’s not even that the spell checker doesn’t know the word, it’s that it can’t unmangle my typing or misspelling. Teh it knows is wrong, and obviously knows ‘the’, but doesn’t even suggest it as a correction.
